Softball Pitching Instructor
In 2024, Aikey helped double UMKC's wins from 9 (2023) to 23, while also lowering the team's pitching staff's ERA in half. Working from a 8.18 ERA, after her second season as the pitching coach they finished overall with a 3.88. The Roos took two power five wins against Iowa State and Kansas in the 24 season. Aikey also helped develop 8 athletes with Summit All-League Awards, and their ace pitcher with a First Team All-League award. During the 2023 season, Aikey helped the Roos document nine wins including the first Kansas City no-hitter since the 2019 season. Under Aikey’s counsel, freshman Katie Noble earned the no-hitter against Rider on March 3, in a 5-0 victory. Thanks to Aikey’s guidance, Kansas City pitchers combined for 169 strikeouts in the 2023 season; both Noble and Camryn Stikel notched three wins each. In her season at Upper Iowa, the Peacocks won 11 more games than the season previous, and Aikey’s pitching staff lowered its opponent batting average from .335 to .311. Prior to her time at Upper Iowa, Aikey was an assistant coach at Cedar Falls High School for three years. During that time, she also ran off-season training programs for the Waverly-Shell Rock softball team and trained athletes with private pitching lessons. Aikey spent her collegiate years at Western Kentucky University, graduating with her Bachelor’s in Health Science. She also earned her Master’s of Recreation and Sports Administration from WKU in 2022. During her time in Bowling Green, she was a two-time Second Team All-Conference USA Performer and six-time Conference USA Pitcher of the Week. She left the Hilltoppers with the first extra-inning no-hitter in program history, the career-saves record (17) and the second-most career strikeouts (554). Her academic accolades rival her athletic awards, earning Dean’s List and President’s List Honors, as well as Conference USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll placements. A Cedar Falls, Iowa native, she spent her first three years of high school at Cedar Falls High School before transferring to Waverly-Shell Rock for her final season of softball. Aikey earned All-Metro honors following her sophomore and junior campaigns and grabbed an Honorable Mention All-Mississippi Valley Conference selection and an All-Academic honor in 2015.
